Our client is a subsidiary of an international food organization with multiple state-of-the-art food processing facilities on the East Coast. The Director of Engineering & Maintenance is a newly created position due to growth/expansion initiatives. This leader will be responsible for planning maintenance tasks designed to maximize the effectiveness, skills, material and equipment They will be responsible for supporting and accomplishing team goals and objectives by working closely with other departments and leading capital projects for the facility. 

Reports to: Vice President Operations

Compensation: to $150K + bonus

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plans, drives, and oversees maintenance system programs to meet plant requirements.  
  • Creates and recommends purchasing plans to implement plant policies and objectives and to attain optimum utilization of machinery and materials, with overall cost reduction.
  • Manages a team of 8 mechanics and is responsible for the maintenance of the entire plant and all equipment. This team is likely to grow to about 12 in the next 2 years.
  • Oversees and manages the system to schedule and plan preventative maintenance jobs, using KAIZEN and One Point Lesson (OPL) on a regular basis to improve plant efficiency. 
  • Handles and reviews negotiation from contractors such as, quotes and cost estimates. All while monitoring expenditures, reconciling purchases, and maintaining accurate files.
  • Enhance our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other maintenance systems. 
  • Contribute to sustainable initiatives such as site inspections and energy surveys while remaining abreast of current legislation to ensure corporate compliance.


  • 15 years’ experience with demonstrated success in a senior management role is acceptable.
  • Ten (10) years of maintenance experience in food processing facility is required.
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration and ISO9000 experience preferred.
  • Experience in budgeting, planning, estimations and building rapport with all team members.

Capital Project Engineer

Position: Capital Project Engineer

This leader will identify, evaluate, develop, design, and implement plant improvements in many areas:

– packaging asset replacement/upgrade projects

– bottling/canning and packaging systems and optimization process changes

– new technologies to achieve increased productivity

– enhanced manufacturing/packaging flexibility and capacity

– improved product quality

– improved safety systems


  • Provide a mix project engineering and project management on assigned capital projects primarily with a primary focus on packaging equipment and automated material handling systems.
  • Interface with internal customers and stakeholders (Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS) and operating personnel to by providing hands-on situational troubleshooting expertise as well as identification, investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of new and innovative projects, processes, or equipment to achieve operating cost reductions, increase in throughput, capacity expansions, manufacturing flexibility improvement opportunities, improved product quality, and governmental compliance.
  • Responsible for scope definition, capital cost estimates, operating cost savings development, investment justification, system design, cost value analysis, equipment design specifications, development of engineering design specifications, and supervision/management of outside consulting engineering firms and contractors.
  • Prepares capital cost estimates and determines applicable cost savings, financial feasibility, capital risk and ROI/NPV for new equipment, construction, and modification to existing operations and systems.
  • Develop business case and plan for investment in new initiatives and new technologies.
  • Provides technical engineering consultation, assistance, and leadership.
  • Ability to travel between locations

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Engineering Degree required (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Chemical)
  • 5-7+ years of progressive project engineering and project management experience within the food, beverage, or consumer products industry with a mix of plant engineering and corporate engineering exposure.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a high-speed liquid filling operation
  • Experience specifying, managing installation, and starting up automated packaging equipment lines and/or material handling systems.
  • Continuous Improvement experience
  • Demonstrated packaging equipment/process troubleshooting skills
  • Capital project management skills and experience

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Prior experience as a front-line packaging operations manager or supervisor
  • PMP Certification
  • Mix of packaging, processing, and utilities engineering experience a plus.
  • Experience with liquid process systems as it relates to filling equipment and product supply
  • Knowledge and understanding of packaging automation and line controls
  • Knowledge of beverage packaging materials including cans, glass bottles, labels, corrugated, and paperboard packaging.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Excellence Programs such as the Integrated Work System (IWS).

Primary Responsibilities:

Director Quality Assurance


The QA Director is responsible and has the authority to oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF system. This will also include the food safety plan and the food quality plan. This leader will oversee the QA & Food Safety teams including a QA Manager.

Reports to: VP Operations

Compensation: to $140K + Bonus


  • Must take appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF System
  • Must communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System
  • Must work as the leader in bringing information on new government regulations, new customers’ requirements, and new regulatory standards to be developed and implemented by the team
  • Must enforce the USDA regulations and requirements from other countries when product is exported
  • Must keep up to date and functional the HACCP-SQF system and prerequisite programs 
  • Coordinate all audits internal, 3rd Party, 2nd Party, customer and audits of the facility performed by other countries or by customers  
  • Mock Recall/Food Defense/Traceback Coordinator
  • Responsible for label and nutritional information for all new products 
  • Lead contract sanitation team. 
  • Oversee food safety and quality related training for all employee’s hygiene (new employees, annual and reinforcement)
  • Manage customer complaints relating to food safety and quality
  • Do verifications for HACCP-SQF system (on site verification, records verification, recurrence evaluation)
  • Make corrections on HACCP-SQF system and emit corrective action report following various audits
  • When regulations change, be sure all corrections are done for all control and verification affected by changes
  • Annually, verify and update all programs of HACCP-SQF system
  • Make microbiological analysis on product to determine shelf life and prepare report on findings
  • Be sure products label conform to regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that the company manufactures product that is safe and adheres to quality specifications and food safety set by the company, customers, and regulatory bodies
