Purchasing Manager, MA
Resource, Inc. has been engaged to conduct a professional search for a Purchasing Manager. Our client is an established high growth bard ingredient company based in the Boston area. We are looking for a proactive, resourceful and strategically inclined individual to join their team. Experience with bard commodities, global markets and organic bards a plus. Must be able to work independently and be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. The right candidate will enjoy an entrepreneurial environment and be able to travel internationally. Foreign language and/or logistics experience is a plus. Position will be responsible for the cost effective acquisition of goods purchased from vendors and ensuring compliance with company standards and federal and foreign regulations governing the purchase, shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported bard products.
Reports to: Director of Operations
Interacts with: Quality, Operations and Sales Departments
Requirements:
• Experience in Purchasing function and vendor management with strong negotiating
skills and familiarity with legal contracts.
• Experience using commodity market data and fundamentals to drive purchase
decisions and contract negotiations.
• Experience and validated forecast-to-demand planning skills.
• A “can-do” attitude with proven problem solving skills.
• College/university degree or supply chain management professional certification.
• Market study
• Excellent time management skills and strong follow-through and follow-up skills,
supported by professional references.
• Strong verbal and written communication. Must be able to interact in a professional
manner with all vendors, customers, contractors, and all internal and external
contacts. Familiar with and corroborated sensitivity to different cultures and ethnic
backgrounds.
• Demonstrated computer fluency with MS Office programs and computer-based
communication tools. Proficient user of Excel functions and spreadsheets.
Experience with Mac computers a plus.
• Demonstrated fluency in at least one foreign language (Spanish, Portuguese)
• Valid passport; willing and able to travel independently internationally.

Packaging Manager, Sourcing
Manage a multi-million dollar portfolio of Direct Material Packaging in support of the NA Beauty
Business. This includes, but is not limited to, developing supply strategies to meet overall corporate
objectives of service, quality, and innovation. Achieving the lowest total delivered costs through
Total Supply Chain Integration is our ultimate objective. Travel required Domestically and
Internationally (25%).
Principal Duties:
Manage packaging components (Primarily Plastic Tubes and Pumps). Additionally responsible for
providing direct support and coaching to the managers/associate managers within the packaging
components group.
Independently develop strategies to support North American supply and meet business objectives.
Implement such strategies and revise as business conditions warrant.
- Have a working knowledge of a Strategic Sourcing Process and corresponding technologies
- Understand market factors that affect those decisions
- Be innovative with cost reduction opportunities
- Understand base materials and component cost drivers and use creatively in cost
negotiations/discussions.
- Apply progressive costing/negotiation tactics to deliver the lowest total system cost to all markets.
- Utilize systems and PC software applications in support of sound business recommendations
Serve as team member on service improvement initiatives – working closely with each Beauty
Sourcing associate – as well as cross-functionally. This will involve sharp communication skills and
keen influence management abilities. This role will be expected to interface with all levels of
management, and create service tracking reports for Beauty sourcing. This role requires in-depth
knowledge of the interfaces in SC and how it translates to the companies marketing and sales
business model.
Develop Packaging Commodity Strategies in-line with marketing objectives that supports Concept
to Market needs and improved service flexibility.
Implement and successfully lead continuous improvement initiatives with key suppliers in support of
Business Transformation goals: cost savings, lead-time reduction, increased inventory turns,
improved processes, etc. Develop measurements and KPI’s to track continuous improvement
opportunities/initiatives.
Track and measure financial cost savings for assigned packaging components based on purchase
variation and rebates, as well as track cost avoidance, contributions to other markets, currency
fluctuations and their impact.
Serve as direct liaison between Sourcing and other cross-functional groups: Finance, Marketing,
Global Research and Development, Manufacturing, other Markets, Quality and the Supply Chain
organization to influence focus and activities that support the companies operating agenda.
Position Complexity:
This position entails recommending selection of suppliers to meet business needs and developing
those suppliers to meet the companies changing business needs. The recommendation must be
supported by financial analysis of total delivered costs and multiple options (or “what if”) scenarios
to ensure the best sourcing decision is being made for North America. Furthermore, this position is
expected to understand cost drivers and assimilate that understanding into negotiations and
continuous improvement opportunities with suppliers. This position is further required to provide
direction to staff on sourcing activities and is required to LEAD Service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education Required: B.S. in Business, Purchasing, Logistics, or Finance
Experience Required: Minimum 3-5 years in consumer products industry.
Manufacturing, Finance, Planning and/or Logistics experience a plus.

- Development and execution of streamlined strategy implementation plans.
Financial Acumen:
- Knowledge and understanding of cost drivers and apply to negotiations, development of strategies
and embarking upon cost improvement opportunities.
- Understands the cycle of money in a corporation and understand basic financial tracking tools
- Ability to assess cost improvement opportunities through analysis and development of cost models.
- Understands Supply Chain Integration and how to work within all the “links” to meet objectives.
- Knowledge and/or experience with manufacturing, logistics and systems (MRP, forecasting, DRP)

to supplier senior management for negotiations and paradigm shifts. Industry experts – for training,
for understanding of trends and market projections on base materials and cost drivers.
